This house has been our home for the last 8 years and there is so much to love about it! Let’s start with the location. The front of the house is on Southridge Drive, which is a quiet horseshoe road with friendly neighbors and a wonderful community. A block away is Gaska Park, with lots of fun trails to explore and nature to observe. Gaska Park is home to a few families of deer and they aren’t afraid of people. Also at Gaska Park is a fenced-in little league baseball diamond, playground, and new dog park. The highway is about a 1.5 mile drive so getting to anywhere in Wausau is achievable in 15 minutes or less. DC Everest public high school is about a 5 minute drive, Northland Lutheran High School is about ten minutes, and St. Peter Lutheran Church and School is about a seven minute drive.
Exterior
The backyard is partially hidden from Military Road by thick hedges. Just on the other side of the hedges is a patio area where many a fire with roasted marshmallows and s’mores have made children happy. The covered wood pile comes fully stocked and waiting for your nighttime ghost stories!
There is a small raised garden on the side of the garage with nutrient-dense soil. The stained deck is the perfect area to entertain birthday parties, board games, and good times.
The 3 car garage has extra room on the side for hanging tools. There is a work bench and storage shelves in the back and above. The main large garage door is operated by an automatic garage door opener.
Foyer and Living Room
When you enter the main entrance, you have to choose where you want to go. Don’t get lost! Forward will take you up the steps to the bedrooms, left will take you into the formal dining room, and right will take you into the large living room. We will take that way for this virtual tour. The living room boasts a real wood-burning fireplace with a gas-assisted starter. This is one of the things I’m going to miss most about this home. The sweet smell of a real fire on Christmas morning is heavenly. The carpets will be professionally shampooed and cleaned before you move in.
Kitchen and Breakfast Nook
We move on from the living room into the breakfast nook. The windows let in so much natural light and nearly the entire backyard can be seen from here. There is an apple tree in the backyard that is the favorite spot in the neighborhood for the deer to come munch on in the fall. If you place your feeders right, the deer and birds will come within a few feet of the windows while you sip your coffee.
A large glass door opens to the deck outside, and beyond this area is the kitchen. The amount of storage is impressive, and if there isn’t enough, then add whatever you have left into the pantry. All appliances are included with the lease of the house. A water filtration system has been installed to purify the water of contaminants, and a handy built-in soap dispenser is there on the sink. Before you ask, yes, there is a garbage disposal installed as well!
Formal Dining Room, Laundry Room, and Main Floor Bathroom
Walking past the fridge takes us into a hallway. We turn right and the formal dining room is to our left as we walk down the hall. The hallway and dining room is all original wood flooring. The windows again let in a lot of light. If you don’t need a formal dining room, this room could also be a playroom for the kiddos, a sitting room, a game room, or an office (you may want to put doors on if you want a private office). Walking further down the hallway takes us to the garage door. To the left is the laundry room (washer and dryer included) and to the right is a closet and then the main floor bathroom.
Bedrooms (Second Floor)
Now we’re going to turn around, go down the hallway, and back to the foyer. We walk up the steps and to the right is the huge master bedroom, complete with a double bifold closet, walk-in closet with shelving, and an on-suite bathroom. In the bathroom are Jack and Jill sinks, a walk-in shower, and new toilet. With the blinds drawn and the navy blue paint, the bedroom is nearly void of light for a deep night’s sleep.
Going back into the hall, there is a bedroom straight ahead with a double-bifold closet. The next room is the guest bathroom, with a full bathtub. There is an extra-large mirror for getting the whole family in on a teeth-brushing frenzy! And finally, one smaller bedroom is at the end of the hallway, also with double-bifold closet doors. The stairs and entire second floor is carpeted.
Basement
The basement is HUGE! As you walk down the stairs, to your left is an open area that we used as the media room. Lots of great times playing Super Smash Brothers and watching old Disney movies have happened here. There is a storage closet off this room and then a bonus room in the corner. The bonus room was used as a weight room hence the foam flooring and mirrors), but this space could have so many different uses. The main electrical panel is hidden behind a painted door. The house has 200 amp service and all breakers are properly labeled.
Going back to the stairs, there is another open area that was used as a general play area. But again, you can use your imagination to fit your needs. A door here leads into the only unfinished area of the house. There are lots of shelving units in this room, along with the utilities. Both the water heater and the furnace have recently been serviced and have no issues. Cat6 cabling goes to various parts of the house for potential full-house WiFi coverage.
The next room after the unfinished area is a full bathroom with walk-in corner shower and a closet just outside of the bathroom. But then across the hallway is a room that James used as his home office. He is now a computer security engineer, so of course the Matrix is one of his favorite trilogies. In this room the walls are painted black and there is a black light mounted in the ceiling that illuminates Matrix-like characters streaming down one of the walls. Who needs virtual backgrounds in your Zoom meeting when you have the real thing? If you want to make James cry, he has agreed to paint this room whatever color you want if the Matrix theme isn’t your vibe. This room also houses the main water shut-off valve inside a built-in cabinet.
